Squaremouth Study Reveals Most Expensive U.S. Flight Destinations, Namibia Tops List
A recent study conducted by travel insurance marketplace Squaremouth has identified the most expensive destinations to fly to from the U.S. The analysis, which examined airfares from major departure points such as New York and Los Angeles, found that long-haul and remote locations dominate the highest price tiers. Namibia emerged as the most expensive destination, with an average flight cost of $2,009. This figure surpassed even Antarctica, which, accessed via Ushuaia, Argentina, averaged $1,899 per flight. Other top contenders for costly airfares include Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Madagascar, rounding out the top five. The study highlights that while some destinations like South Africa offer direct flights from the U.S., many secondary destinations in Sub-Saharan Africa, such as Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Tanzania, Zambia, Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya, often necessitate multiple layovers.
