Lawrence City Commission Approves Annexation for Beacon Landing Development
The Lawrence City Commission has approved annexation and rezoning requests for nearly 300 acres of land in western Lawrence for a new development called Beacon Landing. The land, totaling 288 acres, is situated west of Kansas Highway 10, south of Sixth Street (U.S. Highway 40), and mostly north of Bob Billings Parkway/North 1500 Road, with a small portion extending south near the highway. The westernmost part of the annexation reaches East 800 Road. The commission voted in favor of seven requests related to the development, though not all votes were unanimous. Jeff Crick, director of planning and development services, noted this is likely the largest single annexation request in the last three decades. The plans include 111 acres for residential zoning, with varying densities: 70.1 acres for low-density housing (R-2), 16.9 acres for medium-density housing (R-3), and 23.5 acres for high-density housing (R-4).
