Hospital Patient Accused of $50,000 Computer Damage at St. Luke's Hospital
A patient at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is accused of causing $50,000 worth of damage to hospital equipment. According to a criminal complaint, officers responded to St. Luke’s Hospital on Friday after reports of a male breaking a computer and requiring restraint by security staff. The complaint identifies the individual as 37-year-old Cory Hogan of Waterloo. Hogan was reportedly upset with hospital staff for attempting to keep him as an inpatient. In response, he allegedly completely damaged two Bio Med computer systems by punching one and throwing the other to the ground. The estimated cost to replace these two computer systems is $50,000. Hogan has been charged with Criminal Mischief in the 1st Degree, which is classified as a class C felony.
