Ascension Parish Considers Regulations for Data Center Development Amid Louisiana Boom
Ascension Parish, Louisiana, is proactively moving to regulate data center development, despite not yet having received any specific proposals. The Ascension Parish Council members initiated this action, recognizing the accelerating pace of data center construction across Louisiana. Currently, the parish lacks specific zoning standards for data centers, including setbacks, noise limits, or classifications for their placement. Councilman Chase Melancon emphasized the need for clear guidelines before any applications are submitted. This preemptive measure is influenced by the significant data center investments in neighboring parishes, such as Meta's $50 billion Hyperion project in Richland Parish and Amazon's $12 billion investment in Caddo and Bossier parishes.
