South Carolina's annual tax-free weekend is currently underway, allowing families to purchase back-to-school essentials without paying state or local sales tax. The event, which began on Friday and runs through Sunday, includes items such as school supplies, computers, printers, and clothing. Shoppers at Tanger Outlets Charleston in North Charleston are taking advantage of the tax-free weekend, with some families combining store discounts with the sales tax exemption to maximize savings. However, the timing of the event has raised concerns among some parents, as students in several school districts have already returned to school before the tax holiday began. State Sen. Sean Bennett acknowledged the issue and expressed openness to considering changes to the law if school start dates continue to shift earlier.
