Richmond Public Utilities Addresses Brown Water Complaints Following Pipe Repair
The City of Richmond has reported instances of water discoloration among some customers following the repair and return to service of a 36-inch water main. The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has completed necessary repairs, including pressure testing, disinfection, and water quality sampling to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Despite these measures, some residents have experienced brown water, prompting DPU crews to flush hydrants to remove sedimentation. Customers are advised to flush their plumbing through cold-water faucets and report persistent issues to DPU. The water main was isolated over the July 4 weekend, and its restoration aims to meet system demands and customer needs.
