Detroit Institute of Arts Receives Over 2,000 Artworks from Silverman Estate, Enhancing Collection
The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) has been gifted over 2,000 contemporary and modern artworks from the estate of Gilbert B. and Lila Silverman, renowned art collectors from Detroit. This significant donation includes pieces from nearly 500 artists, such as Diane Arbus, Jenny Holzer, Antony Gormley, Rachel Whiteread, Bruce Nauman, Diego Rivera, Bill Viola, and Andy Warhol. Salvador Salort-Pons, the director of the DIA, highlighted the importance of this gift, noting it as one of the most substantial in the museum's history. The newly acquired artworks are set to be displayed when the museum reopens its galleries in November following renovations. The Silvermans have a history of contributing to art institutions across the U.S., including a notable donation to the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2019.
