National Governors Association Launches 'Service United' Initiative to Promote Workforce Development
The National Governors Association (NGA), under the leadership of Maryland Governor Wes Moore, has launched 'Service United,' a bipartisan initiative aimed at expanding service opportunities for Americans, particularly young people. The program seeks to address workforce and community development needs through state-based service programs. Modeled after Maryland's public service year program, the initiative encourages governors to identify urgent state needs that can be met through paid service, build recruitment models, and ensure service leads to further education or employment opportunities. The goal is to have one million Americans serving annually within the next decade. The initiative was introduced at the NGA Summer Meeting, where governors and private-sector leaders discussed strategies to make service a viable career path.
