Dana Point Declares Emergency After Hurricane Marie Damages 16 Homes
The city of Dana Point, California, has declared a local emergency following severe coastal flooding and strong surf caused by Hurricane Marie. At least 16 beachfront homes have been damaged, with nine homes deemed unsafe for habitation and marked as 'red-tagged.' Seven additional homes have been 'yellow-tagged,' indicating structural damage. The relentless waves destroyed decks, tore down walls, and flooded several properties along Beach Road in the Capistrano Bay Community Services District. While no city infrastructure was reported damaged, officials are actively monitoring the coastline and coordinating with relevant agencies to address ongoing risks. The high surf also impacted other areas along the Southern California coast, including Malibu and Long Beach, over the Labor Day weekend.
