Study Finds App-Based Personalized Dietary Coaching Effective for Weight Loss and Cardiovascular Health
A recent study conducted in Germany, known as the PreVa study, evaluated the effectiveness of app-based, personalized, and general dietary coaching interventions for weight reduction and cardiovascular health. The 16-week randomized trial involved 69 participants aged 25 to 51 with overweight or class 1 obesity. Researchers compared three intervention groups—app-based coaching, individual coaching, and general dietary recommendations—against a control group. All intervention groups received nutrient-optimized menu plans, either via an app or in printed form, along with varying levels of counseling and flaxseed oil supplementation. The nutrition plans gradually reduced energy intake to 70% of German guideline values, optimizing macronutrient ratios and increasing dietary fiber.
