Baxter International has issued a recall for a lot of Cefazolin in Dextrose Injection, USP, due to the presence of cardboard particles in the solution. This antibiotic is widely used to prevent infections during surgeries. The recall affects Lot LD175708, which was distributed across the United States between March 25 and June 30, 2025, with an expiration date of February 14, 2027. The recall is significant because cefazolin is already listed as being in short supply by the FDA. The presence of foreign material in the injectable product poses risks such as pulmonary emboli and other serious health issues. Hospitals and distributors have been notified to check their inventories, and the recall primarily impacts hospital pharmacies and home infusion patients.
