Canadian Hacker Pleads Guilty in Snowflake Data Breach, Faces Sentencing
Connor Moucka, a 26-year-old Canadian, has pleaded guilty in a U.S. District Court to charges related to the Snowflake data breach, which involved stealing information from 165 organizations and extorting millions of dollars. Moucka admitted to computer fraud, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and conspiracy. The breach, which occurred in 2024, targeted cloud storage of companies like AT&T and Ticketmaster. Moucka and his co-conspirators extorted 36 bitcoin, valued at $2.5 million at the time, and sought $6 million for stolen data. Moucka personally profited by $495,000 in bitcoin. His sentencing is scheduled for October 27, with potential penalties including a mandatory two-year sentence for identity theft and up to 30 years for other charges.
