Fire at Iowa Kosher Meat Plant Disrupts Production Before High Holidays
A major fire at AgriStar Processing, one of the largest kosher meat processing plants in the U.S., has halted production, affecting the supply of kosher meat ahead of the High Holidays. The fire, which started accidentally in the plant's laundry room, destroyed 75% of the facility and left over 600 employees out of work. The disruption is expected to tighten the supply of kosher meat, potentially increasing prices. The Orthodox Union is seeking alternative production solutions to mitigate the impact.
