Rwanda and Kazakhstan's Tau-Ken Samruk Forge Partnership to Enhance Critical Minerals Sector
Rwanda has entered into a strategic partnership with Kazakhstan's state-owned mining company, Tau-Ken Samruk, to bolster its critical minerals sector. The agreement, approved during a Cabinet meeting chaired by President Paul Kagame, involves establishing a joint venture for mineral exploration and mining activities across Rwanda. This partnership follows President Kagame's visit to Kazakhstan in May 2025, where he and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, technology, and critical minerals. Tau-Ken Samruk aims to diversify global critical mineral supply chains beyond China, which currently dominates production. The collaboration is expected to attract foreign investment and introduce advanced exploration technologies to Rwanda.
