Social Media Giants Sued Over Teen Suicides Amid Rising Child Safety Concerns
The families of four teenagers who died by suicide have filed a lawsuit against major social media companies Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube. The lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of Delaware, accuses these platforms of contributing to the mental health crisis among youth by creating addictive and harmful environments. The Social Media Victims Law Center is representing the families, highlighting that the deaths occurred despite previous lawsuits and warnings about the dangers of these platforms. The complaint alleges that the companies were aware of the harm their platforms caused to young users, leading to issues such as social media addiction, sleep deprivation, depression, and anxiety. The lawsuit is part of a broader wave of legal actions against social media companies, which are under scrutiny for their impact on minors' mental health.
