Singapore Man with ALS Establishes Charitable Fund to Support Young Caregivers
Mr. Yeo Whee Jim, a 52-year-old Singaporean diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), has established a charitable fund to support young caregivers from lower-income families. Despite his debilitating condition, which has left him reliant on a ventilator and unable to perform basic tasks independently, Mr. Yeo has chosen to live 'audaciously' by donating a significant portion of his insurance payouts to create the Lok Yan and Whee Jim Fund. This fund, set up with the Community Foundation of Singapore, aims to provide financial assistance to young caregivers, a cause close to Mr. Yeo's heart due to his personal experiences with illness in the family. The fund is an endowment, with donations invested and returns used for charitable causes. Mr. Yeo's initiative is part of his broader efforts to leave a legacy of resilience and generosity for his daughter, following the loss of his wife to breast cancer.
