Tornado Warning Issued Near Des Moines Amid Severe Thunderstorms
A tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines for northeastern Wayne County, Iowa, including Promise City and Millerton, at 2:38 p.m. Central time on Thursday. The warning was prompted by a severe thunderstorm over Corydon, moving northeast at 55 mph, with radar indicating rotation. The storm is capable of producing quarter-sized hail and poses a significant tornado threat. AccuWeather meteorologists have also warned of isolated tornadoes potentially affecting the Midwest, including cities like Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, and Indianapolis, throughout the afternoon and evening. The tornado watch for southern and eastern Iowa remains in effect until 8 p.m. Central time, covering numerous counties.
