California Introduces Rebates to Boost Electric Vehicle Adoption Amid High Gas Prices
California is launching a new rebate program to encourage the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs) as gas prices remain high. The program, starting next month, aims to assist drivers in buying their first new or used EV. Despite the elimination of federal tax credits, California continues to lead in EV adoption, with 19.1% of new car sales being zero-emission vehicles in the second quarter. The state hopes the rebates will stimulate EV sales, although supply shortages and higher prices remain challenges. The program offers $3,500 off new EVs and $1,750 off used models, with eligibility criteria based on vehicle price and buyer's first-time purchase status.
