Columbia-Greene Humane Society Over Capacity with Dogs from Abuse Cases, Waives Adoption Fees
The Columbia-Greene Humane Society in Hudson, N.Y., is currently operating beyond its capacity due to an influx of dogs rescued from animal cruelty cases. According to Ron Perez, the shelter's president and CEO, they are housing nearly 50 dogs, significantly exceeding their typical capacity of 30 runs plus some crate dogs. Many of these animals arrived in poor condition, suffering from malnourishment and requiring extensive medical care, including spaying/neutering and health testing. To facilitate adoptions and alleviate the overcrowding, the shelter has initiated a special promotion: adoption fees for these specific dogs are being waived, with sponsorships covering the costs. This initiative aims to encourage community members to provide loving homes for these rescued animals, many of whom, like a dog named Bella, have made remarkable recoveries despite their initial severe neglect.
