Africa's Fertilizer Crisis Highlights Structural Vulnerabilities in Agriculture
Africa's agricultural systems have been significantly impacted by a global fertilizer crisis, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The crisis led to sharp increases in fertilizer prices and supply constraints, affecting countries like Kenya, Ghana, and Morocco differently based on their market structures. While Morocco's domestic production provided some resilience, Kenya and Ghana faced greater disruptions due to their reliance on imports. The crisis has highlighted the need for long-term strategies to strengthen agricultural resilience.
