Worcester's Historic Structures Face Uncertain Future Amid Preservation Efforts
Preservation Worcester has released its 2026 Most Endangered Structures List, highlighting historic buildings and resources in Worcester, Massachusetts, that are at risk due to deterioration, neglect, or potential demolition. The list includes a downtown high-rise, an 18th-century tavern, historic three-deckers, and 27 Victorian-era gas lamps. The organization aims to draw attention to these properties to spur discussion and investment for their preservation. Notably, the Commerce Building, a nine-story landmark, is cited for deferred maintenance and vandalism. The list also includes the Cow Tavern, facing serious structural issues, and the Joseph and James Cooney Cottage, reflecting Worcester's agricultural history.
