Relentless Heat Wave to Bring Widespread 100-Degree Temperatures to Kansas
Kansas is bracing for a relentless heat wave this weekend and into next week, with widespread temperatures expected to reach 100 degrees or higher. Highs will be around 100 degrees with gusty south winds this weekend. While isolated storms might return to western and northern Kansas by Sunday night, they are not expected to be widespread. The upper-level high pressure system responsible for the heat will slowly break down next week, but its remnants will linger near Kansas and Oklahoma, keeping temperatures well above average and limiting significant rainfall. The Wichita area forecast predicts highs of 101 degrees today, 103 on Sunday and Monday, 102 on Tuesday, and 101 on Wednesday, with temperatures remaining around 100 degrees through the following Saturday. Overnight lows will generally stay in the mid-70s, offering little relief from the heat.
