Consumer Reports Evaluates Chainsaws for Hurricane Season Preparation
As the hurricane season begins, Consumer Reports has tested various chainsaws to help homeowners prepare for potential storm impacts. The evaluations focused on gas, battery-powered, and corded-electric chainsaws, assessing their efficiency, safety, and ease of use. Battery-powered chainsaws are gaining popularity due to their low maintenance and ease of operation, making them a suitable choice for occasional users. Tests included cutting through a 10-inch square beam, measuring the number of cuts per battery charge, and evaluating kickback safety mechanisms. Among the top-rated models, the Echo CS-590-18 gas chainsaw scored 73 overall, while the Ego CS2005 battery-powered chainsaw achieved the highest score of 83. Safety recommendations include wearing protective gear such as hearing and eye protection, gloves, leg guards, and steel-toed shoes. The report emphasizes the importance of trimming tree branches to reduce risks during storms.
