BioVie Inc. Reports Positive Phase 2 Trial Results for Bezisterim in Early Parkinson's Disease
BioVie Inc. has announced the results of its Phase 2 SUNRISE-PD trial, which evaluated the drug candidate bezisterim in early-stage Parkinson's disease. The trial demonstrated that patients treated with bezisterim showed statistically significant improvements in both motor and non-motor symptoms compared to those receiving a placebo. The study also highlighted bezisterim's beneficial impact on plasma biomarkers of neurodegeneration and inflammation. The trial met its prespecified endpoints, showing improvements in blood-based inflammatory markers and a range of biological markers associated with cellular health and nerve cell damage. The results suggest that bezisterim may address unmet clinical needs in Parkinson's disease by targeting the underlying disease biology rather than just symptomatic treatment.
