Houston Firm Awarded $150 Million Contract for Child Migrant Legal Services Amid Federal Contract Expiration
The federal government has awarded a $150 million contract to the Houston-based Burke Law Group to provide legal services to unaccompanied child migrants. The contract, set to begin on August 15, comes after the expiration of a previous contract with a network of nearly 100 legal groups, which had not been paid for over six months. The Burke Law Group has ties to the Trump administration, with one of its founders, Marcella Burkey, having served as a Trump appointee to the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Interior. The announcement of this contract highlights the ongoing challenges in providing legal assistance to child migrants, a critical issue given the complex legal processes these children face.
