InvestigateTV+ Examines For-Profit Schools' Recruiting Promises and Student Debt Outcomes
InvestigateTV+, in collaboration with the Arnolt Center for Investigative Journalism at Indiana University, has conducted an analysis into the advertising claims and disclosures of over 100 for-profit schools nationwide. The investigation found instances of dubious claims regarding post-graduate employment rates. One specific example highlighted a college that touted conclusions about the professional status of hundreds of graduates, despite only 13 having actually completed an employment survey. The report suggests that many students are drawn to these institutions by advertising and promotional materials, which can lead to significant financial traps and student loan debt that escalates beyond the initial borrowed amount, as illustrated by one woman's experience with a 'fast track' to a creative career.
