UConn School of Medicine Explores Precision Medicine for Pancreatic Cancer with Biochip System
UConn School of Medicine is collaborating with Encapsulate, Inc., a precision medicine startup, to advance pancreatic cancer treatment. This research, conducted at UConn's Technology Incubation Program (TIP) in Farmington, focuses on utilizing Encapsulate's Biochip System. The Biochip System aims to rapidly test a pancreatic cancer patient's individual tumor tissue sample, replicate its cellular growth in a laboratory setting, and predict the most effective chemotherapy or immunotherapy. Currently, chemotherapies for pancreatic cancer are effective in only 60% of cases, often requiring multiple drug trials to identify a working treatment, which prolongs the treatment timeline. The study involves examining de-identified biopsy tissue samples from UConn Health patients undergoing pancreatic cancer care using the Biochip system for research purposes.
