AFRAA Report Highlights Domestic Flights as Key Driver of African Air Travel Growth
The African Airlines Association (AFRAA) has released its Routes and Connectivity Analysis Report for the second half of 2025, highlighting the significant role of domestic flights in driving passenger traffic across Africa. According to the report, domestic routes accounted for the highest passenger volumes, with the top 100 routes carrying a combined 13.4 million passengers. Cairo International Airport emerged as the continent's leading aviation hub, featuring prominently in domestic, intra-African, and international route rankings. South Africa and Nigeria continued to dominate the domestic aviation market, while Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport led intra-African connectivity. The report also noted balanced passenger demand across the network, with minimal directional imbalances.
