Northwoods Tourism Businesses Remain Optimistic Despite High Gas Prices

Despite these increases, business owners like Jeffrey Zavada, who operates the Twilight Supper Club and Pioneer Resort, remain hopeful that tourists will continue to visit. Zavada notes mixed signals in visitor numbers, with some decline in resort bookings but steady restaurant traffic. The impact of high gas prices is compounded by broader inflationary pressures, with national inflation rates rising by 3.8% in April. However, some businesses, like the Deerfoot Lodge and Resort, report strong visitor numbers, suggesting that proximity to larger cities may mitigate the impact of fuel costs.
