Ukraine's New Military Chief Faces Online Impersonation Scandal
A fake X account impersonating Ukraine's newly appointed military chief, Maj. Gen. Mykhailo Drapatyi, has gained significant attention online. The account, @Drapatyi_M, amassed nearly 7,000 followers within days of Drapatyi's appointment. Despite its activity, the account is not officially recognized by Ukraine's General Staff of the Armed Forces, which has clarified Drapatyi's legitimate social media presence. The impersonator has been posting updates similar to those typically shared by Ukrainian leaders, including discussions with Raytheon executives and announcements about military audits. The account's misleading posts have sparked concern among Ukrainian figures, including Serhii Sternenko, a prominent fundraiser for combat drones, who publicly denounced the account as fake.
