The Word Appoints Rowena Alegría as Executive Director to Support Marginalized Writers
The Denver-based literary nonprofit, The Word, A Storytelling Sanctuary, has announced the appointment of writer Rowena Alegría as its new executive director. This decision follows an extensive national search. In her new role, Alegría will be responsible for leading The Word's initiatives aimed at supporting BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, disabled, and neurodiverse writers, as well as other marginalized professionals within the literary industry. Alegría brings a wealth of experience to this position, having previously worked at prominent media outlets, including the Denver Post. She also founded the Denver Office of Storytelling in 2018 and served as the city’s chief storyteller until 2024, demonstrating a strong background in narrative and community engagement.
