Manoa Stream Maintenance Project Begins to Mitigate Flood Risks
Efforts to mitigate flooding in Manoa, Hawaii, have commenced with a $9.5 million state-funded project aimed at clearing sediment, vegetation, and debris from Manoa Stream. The initiative follows the devastating March 28 Kona-low storm that caused significant flooding, damaging schools, businesses, and homes. The project, led by the Hawaii Department of Transportation and the City & County of Honolulu Department of Facility Maintenance, includes dredging, slope regrading, and debris removal to restore the stream's capacity to handle heavy rainfall. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is expected to conclude in December 2026.
