Tucson Police Involved in Shooting After Gunman Injures Nine in Downtown Incident
In Tucson, Arizona, a shooting incident occurred early Sunday morning, July 19, involving a suspect who opened fire in a crowded area, injuring nine people. The Tucson Police Department reported that officers on foot patrol heard gunshots and responded to the scene on East Congress Street and North 6th Avenue. Upon arrival, they encountered a male suspect fleeing the scene. Despite multiple commands to stop, the suspect was shot by a uniformed officer. The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The victims, who suffered gunshot wounds primarily to their extremities, were stabilized and transported to a local hospital. The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team has been activated to investigate the incident, with the Pima County Sheriff's Department leading the investigation. Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords issued statements expressing concern over the incident and the broader issue of gun violence.
