Cruise Lines Reroute Alaska Excursions Due to Tracy Arm Landslide Concerns
Major cruise companies have decided to bypass Tracy Arm, a popular fjord in southeast Alaska, following a significant landslide last summer. The landslide, which occurred on August 10, 2025, caused parts of a glacier to collapse into the water, creating a tsunami that surged up the opposite mountain wall. Although no ships were present in the fjord at the time, and no injuries were reported, the event has raised safety concerns. As a result, cruise lines such as Holland America, Carnival Cruise Line, and Royal Caribbean are opting for alternative routes, specifically Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier. The decision comes as the area remains unstable, with ongoing rockfalls and potential for future localized tsunamis.
