OpenAI Opens First Permanent London Office, Expands AI Research Hub
OpenAI has announced the opening of its first permanent office in London, marking a significant expansion of its operations outside the United States. The new office, which can accommodate over 500 team members, follows the company's decision to halt a major AI infrastructure project in the UK. OpenAI has signed a lease for an 88,500 square foot space, reinforcing London's status as a key hub for AI research. Currently, OpenAI employs around 200 people in the UK capital. Phoebe Thacker, the London site lead at OpenAI, highlighted the UK's depth of talent and strong track record in AI as reasons for choosing London as a major research hub.
