Ashtabula County Mother Advocates for Location Safety Tech to Protect At-Risk Children
Morgan Tackett, a mother from Ashtabula County, Ohio, is advocating for the implementation of Project Lifesaver, a location safety technology designed to protect at-risk children and adults. Her son, Myles, who has autism and is nonverbal, has a tendency to wander, a common behavior among children on the autism spectrum. Tackett's concern is heightened by their proximity to Lake Erie, increasing the risk of danger if Myles were to elope. Project Lifesaver provides a watch-sized transmitter that emits a radio frequency signal, allowing trained public safety teams to quickly locate missing individuals. Tackett has brought this initiative to the attention of local officials, including Ashtabula County Commissioner J.P. Ducro, who is considering how to integrate the program with local law enforcement and secure the necessary $6,000 in startup funds.
