Trump Administration Plans to Increase Anti-China Spending by Hundreds of Millions
The Trump administration is preparing to significantly increase funding for programs aimed at countering China's global influence. This move comes after a period of budget cuts that halted many such initiatives. The administration has notified Congress of its intention to spend $175.8 million to replace outdated undersea telecommunications cables in the Caribbean and Central America, aiming to prevent Chinese influence in these regions. The State Department is also considering spending nearly half a billion dollars more on similar programs across the Western Hemisphere, Africa, and Asia. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to counter China's economic, technological, and diplomatic leverage, which the administration views as a threat to U.S. national security.
