FIFA President Gianni Infantino Announces Re-election Bid Amid Strong Support
Gianni Infantino, who has served as the president of FIFA since 2016, has announced his intention to seek another term in office. This announcement was made during the 76th FIFA Congress held in Vancouver. Infantino's current term is set to expire next year, and the election for the 2027-31 term will take place at the 77th FIFA Congress in 2027. Infantino has received significant backing from several soccer confederations, including those from Africa, Asia, and South America, which suggests he may run unopposed. Infantino initially assumed the presidency following a special election after Sepp Blatter's resignation amid a corruption scandal. His initial years in office, from 2016 to 2019, were not counted towards his term limit, allowing him to seek another term.
