Silversea Cruises Ship Rescues Injured Man from Disabled Vessel Off Oregon Coast
A Silversea Cruises ship, the Silver Whisper, successfully rescued a 74-year-old Canadian man from a disabled sailing vessel approximately 500 miles off the coast of Oregon. The incident occurred on May 26, when the man's 29-foot sailing vessel was de-masted and its engine became inoperable due to gale-force winds and 30-foot seas during his journey from Hawaii to British Columbia. The U.S. Coast Guard coordinated the rescue, with the Silver Whisper diverting 120 miles from its course to assist. The ship's crew managed to transfer the injured mariner, who had a shoulder injury, onto the cruise ship, where he received medical care until reaching Vancouver.
