Florida Court Considers Barring Litigant for AI-Generated Fabricated Citations
The Florida Court of Appeal is deliberating whether to prohibit a litigant, Gouldy, from filing further self-represented appeals due to the use of AI-generated submissions containing fabricated citations. The court noted that Gouldy's appeal, which stemmed from a lawsuit against attorney Chiasson, was filled with frivolous arguments and misrepresentations. This case highlights a growing issue in Florida's appellate courts, where an increase in pro se appeals has been observed, partly due to the use of AI tools to generate legal documents. These AI-generated documents often include phantom authority and fabricated quotations, posing challenges for the courts.
