The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has successfully recovered $732,976 in unpaid wages for 31 employees of Lucky King LLC, which operates as Miyako Japanese Buffet in Pompano Beach, Florida. An investigation by the DOL's Wage and Hour Division revealed that the restaurant failed to pay its workers the federal minimum wage and did not maintain proper records, violating the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). According to the department, employees were typically paid a monthly salary ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, despite often working more than 40 hours per week. This payment structure resulted in wages falling below the federal minimum wage. The DOL emphasized that employers are legally required to keep detailed records for each employee, including identification, hours worked, and wages earned, a requirement that Lucky King LLC did not meet.
