U.S. Treasury Department Removes 84 Entities from Sanctions List in Modernization Effort
The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has removed 84 individuals and entities from its sanctions list as part of a broader modernization initiative. This action, announced by Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, aims to streamline sanctions programs and reduce compliance burdens on financial institutions. The entities removed include those no longer considered priorities for U.S. national security or foreign policy, such as deceased individuals and defunct entities. The initiative also involves updating identifying information for 22 list entries to enhance compliance. This effort is part of a review initiated in May to ensure that U.S. sanctions remain targeted, effective, and aligned with national priorities.
