California Prisoner Escapes Again After Release by Mexican Magistrate
Miguel Banuelos, a 49-year-old inmate, escaped from the Washington Ridge Conservation Camp in Northern California on July 4. He was serving a seven-year sentence for drug-related offenses and was due for release in April 2028. After his escape, Banuelos was captured in Tijuana, Mexico, on July 6, but was released by a Mexican magistrate on July 10. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking public assistance to locate Banuelos, who remains at large. The CDCR has not provided details on why Banuelos was not transferred back to U.S. authorities after his capture in Mexico.
