Kazakhstan Achieves Self-Sufficiency in Essential Food Products
Kazakhstan has reached full self-sufficiency in most essential food products, according to the Ministry of Trade and Integration. The country now meets internal demand for staples such as sunflower oil, flour, rice, potatoes, onions, carrots, pasta, beef, and lamb. The agricultural and food processing sectors have expanded significantly, with food exports increasing by 34.4% to $1.6 billion between January and May 2026. The share of critical imports has decreased to 14.7%, indicating a growing preference for locally produced goods.
