Australia's Largest Home Builder Unconsulted on Ambitious Housing Target
Australia's largest home builder, Metricon, was not consulted by the Labor government before the announcement of a target to build 1.2 million homes. CEO Brad Duggan revealed that the target, which aims to address housing shortages, was set without prior discussion with the company. Duggan emphasized the need for structural changes and planning reforms to make the target achievable. The current pace of dwelling completions is falling short, with significant delays in states like New South Wales and Tasmania. The housing market is also affected by recent changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax, which were implemented without consulting key industry players.
