Global Conference Aims to Accelerate Transition from Fossil Fuels
A conference in Colombia, co-sponsored by Colombia and the Netherlands, aims to initiate a global transition away from fossil fuels. This event follows the UN Cop30 climate summit, where Saudi Arabia and other petrostates vetoed a roadmap to phase out fossil fuels. The conference will operate under majority rule, allowing for progress without unanimous consent. It will bring together energy and environment ministers, climate activists, and civil society leaders to develop actionable solutions for transitioning economies away from oil, gas, and coal. The conference seeks to address the $7 trillion annual fossil fuel subsidies and explore ways to phase them out without harming dependent communities.
