Normal Mayor Postpones Vote on Restrictions for Home-Based Businesses
Normal Mayor Chris Koos has announced his intention to withdraw a proposal that would have banned home occupations from allowing customers to visit their homes in the town. The proposal was part of a series of zoning code changes scheduled for consideration by the town council. Mayor Koos stated that this specific section would be withdrawn for further study and consideration, acknowledging that it appeared to be a 'one-size-fits-all scenario.' Under the existing code, home occupations are prohibited from selling commodities or rendering services that require the receipt and delivery of merchandise, goods, or equipment. The proposed ordinance aimed to explicitly extend this ban to include customers, clients, patients, pupils, students, vendors, or business invitees, requiring business activities to be conducted off-site or through electronic means, excluding ordinary residential delivery services.
