Waggles Pet Resort Owner Charged After Dog Dies in Scorching Van
Ross Niehaus, the owner of Waggles Pet Resort in Wheeling, Illinois, has been charged with one count of cruel treatment of animals after a 6-year-old black lab named Miller died in his company's transport van. Miller was left in the van for approximately seven hours on a day when temperatures reached into the 90s with triple-digit heat indices. Steve Serota, Miller's owner, stated that the dog was a regular client of Waggles' chauffeur service, which advertises temperature-controlled transport. Serota expressed profound heartbreak and confusion over how his 110-pound dog, positioned in the first crate, could have been overlooked for such an extended period. The incident has prompted Serota to advocate for immediate safeguards to prevent similar tragedies.
