Record-High Temperatures to Impact Over 100 Million Along East Coast This Week
A significant heat wave is expected to affect the East Coast later this week, with temperatures forecasted to surge 10 to 15 degrees above mid-June averages. According to the FOX Forecast Center, a combination of high pressure off the East Coast and strong southerly winds will draw heat and humidity into the region. Starting Thursday, cities along the Interstate 95 corridor, including Richmond, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City, could experience highs in the mid to upper 90s °F (35-37°C). Factoring in elevated humidity levels, it may feel like triple-digit temperatures. Dew points are expected to rise from the 50s to the upper 60s and low 70s °F, creating oppressive conditions. The Climate Prediction Center's 8-14 day outlook suggests this above-average temperature trend may persist through much of June. On Friday alone, over 40 record highs could be broken, with New York City potentially reaching 95°F (35°C), its warmest since July 2025.
