Storms Cause Major Delays at LaGuardia Airport Ahead of Labor Day Weekend
Thousands of travelers at New York City's LaGuardia Airport faced significant delays on Thursday due to storms across the country, which disrupted one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Around half of all flights arriving at and departing from LaGuardia were delayed, though cancellations remained limited. The disruptions coincided with projections of over 280,000 flights scheduled for the Labor Day weekend, with Thursday being the peak travel day. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) anticipated screening nearly 3 million travelers on Thursday, Friday, and Monday. Road travel was also heavy, with drivers paying an average of $4.14 per gallon for gasoline, approximately $1 more than the previous year. Travelers connecting through major hubs like Chicago also experienced delays, with some reporting missed or rescheduled flights. Despite the challenges, many travelers remained patient, hoping for smoother conditions in the coming days.
